About the event
Discover The Process
In this calm three-hour beginner workshop, you’ll learn how to carve your own ring from wax.
Choose from a selection of simple ring designs, that you can personalise as you go. Wax is easy to shape and offers a refreshing alternative to traditional metalworking techniques, making it ideal for beginners and suitable for all abilities.
Design & Create
We’ll begin by exploring simple design ideas.
You’ll then be introduced to the different waxes, tools and carving techniques used to shape your ring.
This beginner workshop has been carefully designed to keep the process approachable and enjoyable, allowing you to focus on learning the basics while creating a beautiful first piece you can feel proud of.
As your confidence grows, you can adapt and personalise your design, adding your own creative touches as you go.
Casting & Finishing
After the workshop, your carved ring will be sent to a trusted casting company where it will be transformed into solid metal using the ancient lost-wax casting technique.
You can choose to have your ring cast in brass, bronze, silver, or finished with gold plating.
Once your ring returns from casting, Bonnie will carefully clean and polish it in her Plymouth studio, ready for you to wear. You can choose to have your piece posted to you, or collect it in person.
The estimated turnaround time is 4 weeks - and it’s worth the wait.
Casting Fee Guidance
Your workshop ticket does not include the price of casting. The price of casting your piece into metal is based on how much it weighs, and the metal you choose. If you would like your ring cast into metal, Bonnie will weigh it at the end of the workshop and take a deposit.
Examples of casting prices:
Brass/Bronze: £20+
Silver: £40+
Gold plating: +£30 (available on both silver and bronze)
