About the event

Create a bespoke piece of jewellery using traditional wax-carving techniques.

Whether you're looking to mark an occasion or learn a new skill, you will be guided in a fun and playful way to create 1-2 pendants (eg. a pair of earrings, or a pendant for a necklace).

Wax-carving is an ancient technique used to create a variety of items, including jewellery. It's a really fun process, and especially great for those who are new to the world of jewellery. Because of the forgiving nature of wax, you're able to create some really adventurous and sculptural designs that you might not be able to achieve with traditional silversmithing techniques.

After the workshop, your wax design will be sent to a trusted casting company who will transform your item into metal. Once it has been sent back to Bonnie, she will clean and polish it up, ready to be collected or sent to you.

This will all happen within 2-3 weeks of your workshop date... Trust me, it's worth the wait!

Workshop Structure:

  • Introduction to wax carving, and the different specialist waxes and tools you can use.

  • Demonstration and examples of different wax techniques that could be used, including carving, melting and moulding.

  • Draw, share and discuss design ideas, to work out how best to approach them.

  • Time to play and realise your designs.

What to bring:

  • A couple of ideas! Bonnie will provide some sources of inspiration to help with ideas, although strongly recommends that you come to the workshop with an idea or two to play with. Ideas generally tend to change and progress naturally as you create your piece in 3D, but having a starting point will save you as much time for making as possible.

  • Reading glasses (if you need them). You will be working at quite a detailed and small scale, so the clearer the better!

  • Clothes that you don't mind getting melted wax on. It's a pretty clean activity but things can go wrong, especially when you're learning.

Duration: 3.5 hrs

Location: Nakü, 7 Broad Street, Penryn, TR10 8JL

Please note that we need a minimum of 4 participants for this workshop to go ahead.

Unfortunately, if we cannot reach this quota we will have to cancel the event and your ticket will be fully refunded.
